Bitcoin Faces Crucial Test as Spot Demand Trails Leverage

Bitcoin's price has been navigating a crucial period as it approaches its next significant test at $83,000. Despite failing to hold above this level earlier, spot demand remains active, driven in part by continued positive inflows into U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs.

Last week, these funds drew an impressive $986.9 million, marking the third consecutive week of positive flows. This trend indicates that institutional investors continue to show interest in Bitcoin, even as its price struggles to maintain momentum above $82,000.

However, a closer look at exchange balances and whale profitability reveals some concerns for the market. Binance's reserves remain near 685,000 to 687,000 BTC, while short-term holder whales are sitting on large unrealized gains of approximately $9.07 billion.

The derivatives market has also seen a recent reset, with open interest falling from about $27.5 billion to $25.7 billion during September 4 and 5. However, Binance's Bitcoin open interest recently moved above $10 billion, reaching a six-month high.
