Bitcoin Faces Dual Risks as US Senate Rejects CLARITY Act and Fed Decision Looms
Bitcoin is facing a critical day as it navigates two major risks: uncertainty in regulation and rising interest rates. The asset has already absorbed the shock of the failed CLARITY Act vote in the US Senate, which led to a decline in prices.
The Federal Reserve's decision on interest rates is highly anticipated, with a 92% probability of a 0.25% rate hike, according to market expectations. This would bring the target federal funds rate to between 3.5% and 3.75%, a level considered near certain by analysts.
The Treasury yield has also breached the psychological barrier of 5%, with decennial bond yields reaching this threshold for the first time since 2007, before retracing slightly. Oil prices remain elevated due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
Some analysts argue that a rate hike could paradoxically support Bitcoin, as it would aim to anchor long-term inflation expectations and maintain control over longer-dated bond yields. This perspective is supported by Bitfinex's analysis, which notes that liquidity on markets is providing price support while the short end of the yield curve limits the asset's upside.
The critical levels for Bitcoin are considered to be around $71,000, below which a deeper correction could occur, and $82,000, above which prices may stabilize. The market will closely watch these technical levels as it navigates the dual risks of regulation and monetary policy.
