Bitcoin Faces Uncertain August After Strong July
Bitcoin's recent rally may be coming to an end as it enters August. Despite making significant gains in July, historical data indicates that August has been a month of inconsistency for the cryptocurrency.
The average return for Bitcoin in August since 2013 is around 1%, but the median return is actually negative. This discrepancy can be attributed to a few exceptional years, such as 2017 when Bitcoin gained 65%.
Recent history also presents a mixed picture: in August 2022, Bitcoin dropped by almost 9%, while it lost more than 6% in August 2023. In contrast, August 2024 saw only a slight increase.
Technically speaking, Bitcoin is still in recovery mode and has been consolidating in the $63,000, $65,000 range after rising sharply from June's lows. The price is currently trading near its 50-day and 100-day moving averages, which indicates that buyers and sellers are in balance.
However, the overall trend is negative, with the 200-day moving average still sloping downward toward $73,000. Regaining this level would be a crucial step for Bitcoin's bulls, who aim to break above the $67,000 area and eventually reach higher resistance around $72,000.
