Bitcoin Fork Risks Replay Attacks, Developers Warn
A potential minority chain fork is looming on the Bitcoin network, and developers are warning that selling or transferring forked coins can trigger replay attacks that permanently drain users' BTC.
The fork, expected to occur this weekend, lacks replay protection, which means any signed transaction broadcast on the new chain to sell or move new coins can be captured and replayed on Bitcoin itself.
This could result in a user thinking they are only disposing of forked tokens accidentally emptying their BTC balance into an attacker's address.
The core problem is that two chains sharing an identical transaction history leave open the door for opportunistic exploits, as seen in previous high-profile forks like Bitcoin Cash.
