Bitcoin Futures Market Sees Significant Capital Exodus Amid Bearish Sentiment
Bitcoin's futures market is experiencing a significant decline in capital, with open interest reaching one of its lowest levels this year. As of this writing, there are only 652,000 BTC worth of active futures bets, down from the peak of 800,000 early this year.
This reflects a capital exodus, as traders are shying away from leveraged plays despite Bitcoin's 40% price increase in the third quarter. The perpetual funding rates have also flipped negative, averaging minus 0.3% across major exchanges.
When funding rates turn negative, it means that short sellers are aggressively chasing the trade and willing to pay a cost to longs or bulls to keep their bearish bets open. This is indicative of bearish sentiment in the market.
