Bitcoin Futures Surge as Wall Street Loads Up, Options Market Points to Higher Targets
The bitcoin futures market is experiencing a surge in open interest, particularly on Binance and CME. According to Coinglass.com, Binance controls the largest share of bitcoin futures open interest with $9.61 billion worth of contracts still outstanding. The total value of contracts across all exchanges has increased from around $43 billion in June to over $41 billion.
The CME's surge in daily open interest outpaced nearly every major competitor, indicating a possible return of institutional capital. Newhedge.io metrics show that the three-month annualized basis for futures trading above spot on an annualized basis has climbed to 4.3% across Binance, Deribit, and OKX.
In the options market, call contracts have a 62-38 advantage over puts, but fresh positioning shows that new capital is hesitating even while older positions remain tilted higher. The total bitcoin options open interest across exchanges has recovered toward $36 billion.
Max pain, the price where the greatest value of options expires worthless, currently points above spot on all major options venues, with Binance pushing it near $80,000 and Deribit showing peaks around $69,700 for September and December. This could suggest that bullish positioning is gaining real traction or setting up the next liquidation sweep.
