Bitcoin Governance Faces Quantum Test as Hoskinson Predicts Top Spot Loss
Cardano co-founder Charles Hoskinson has voiced concerns that Bitcoin's governance process may hinder its ability to address quantum-computing risks. He believes that if Bitcoin fails to deliver necessary upgrades, it could lose its position as the largest cryptocurrency.
Hoskinson pointed out that Bitcoin's resistance to rapid protocol changes was a major factor in its survival during times of regulatory pressure and market collapses. However, he argued that quantum computing would require a different approach, necessitating coordination among developers, miners, node operators, exchanges, custodians, and wallet providers.
Hoskinson compared Bitcoin's governance process to Cardano's on-chain governance system, which allows for more flexible protocol changes. He noted that with Cardano, decisions can be made through a vote, making it easier to adapt to new challenges like quantum-computing risks.
