Bitcoin Holds Steady Above $78K Amid Geopolitical Tensions
Bitcoin's price has held steady above $78,500 on August 31 after a tumultuous session. The cryptocurrency had dropped to an intraday low of $77,024 following reports of renewed clashes between U.S. and Iranian forces, but rebounded quickly. Market data showed that Bitcoin was poised to test the $80,000 resistance level again, having reclaimed $79,000 on Sunday afternoon.
However, momentum was lost when the price briefly dropped below $78,000. Nevertheless, the recovery was swift, taking just over 30 minutes to reclaim $78,500. As of noon EST, the price hovered just below $78,600, reflecting a 0.6% decline.
Despite the marginal loss, Bitcoin's market capitalization dropped to $1.57 trillion, but its overall performance in August remains strong. With only hours left in the month, Bitcoin is on course to end August with 30-day gains of just under 25%, one of its best performances this year so far.
Utkarsh Ahuja, founder and managing partner at Moon Pursuit Capital, believes that market liquidity will be a key driver of price action in the coming months. He notes that other factors such as monetary policy, inflation, and global money supply will also impact Bitcoin's price.
