Bitcoin Holds Steady as US Inflation Data Falls Short of Expectations
Bitcoin (BTC) maintained its position around $63,900 on Thursday following the release of softer-than-anticipated US Producer Price Index data for July. The 4.7% annual increase fell short of the 4.9% consensus forecast, reducing concerns about interest rate hikes and giving markets a modest lift.
The Producer Price Index (PPI) climbed 4.7% annually, down from 5.8% in June, with declining gasoline costs and energy sector price reductions contributing to the slower pace. The core PPI metric, which excludes food and energy prices, also showed a 0.2% monthly increase, below the expected 0.3% rise.
The inflation data had a positive impact on equity markets in the US, with the S&P 500 index climbing 0.87% and the Nasdaq Composite advancing 0.94%. Bitcoin mirrored this sentiment, rising 0.5% for the day.
Despite the encouraging inflation figures, Federal Reserve policymakers maintained a cautious stance, expressing skepticism about whether recent disinflation trends would be sufficient to achieve the central bank's 2% inflation objective.
