Bitcoin Loses Payment Ground to Stablecoins in Emerging Agentic Economy
A recent report from Blackrock and findings by the Bitcoin Policy Institute suggest that bitcoin is losing its battle as a preferred payment method in the medium term, but its future remains uncertain.
The report states that newer AI models increasingly favor stablecoins over bitcoin for agentic payments. According to the Bitcoin Policy Institute's research, 77% of responses from AI models preferred stablecoins for payments, while only 20% chose bitcoin. This is a significant drop from their previous findings in March, where 36% of responses favored BTC.
The Blackrock report also notes that stablecoins are considered the most likely to lead transactional use in the agentic economy, with some digital assets, such as Ethereum, also benefiting. Bitcoin's role in this emerging economy is still debated, but it remains a leader in savings technology.
