Bitcoin Market Positioning Holds Ahead of Fed Decision, Risks Sharp Price Volatility
The market positioning for Bitcoin ahead of the Federal Reserve's interest-rate decision remains modestly bullish. According to an analysis by CryptoQuant contributor Theophiluspep, the funding rate on Binance Bitcoin perpetual futures is slightly positive at about 0.006% at the latest settlement.
A positive funding rate indicates that traders with long positions are paying those holding short positions, suggesting a market positioning tilted modestly to the upside.
The analysis also notes that Binance Bitcoin open interest remains high, which suggests long positions are being maintained without signs of excessive leverage. However, it cautions that the Fed's decision could trigger a sharp increase in price volatility.
A dovish outcome from the Fed could help sustain existing long positions and support further gains in Bitcoin, while a more hawkish result may lead to liquidations of leveraged positions, increasing downside volatility.
