Bitcoin May Break Free from Historic Capitulation Zone

The Balanced Price metric has historically been effective at identifying deep cycle bottoms of Bitcoin. This zone is currently near $38,400 and has adjusted Bitcoin's aggregate market cost basis using the long-term spending footprint of older coins.

However, according to Alphractal founder Joao Wedson, historical evolution does not necessarily mean prices must return to that level. The cumulative time between interactions with the zone has increased, from 732 days to 1,420 days in the current cycle.

The time spent below the metric has also steadily declined, from several weeks earlier cycles to just one day in 2022. This raises a fundamental possibility that BTC could eventually break from its historical pattern and never revisit the zone.

Meanwhile, Bitcoin investors are becoming increasingly confident that the market bottom is already behind them. Wedson found that 'Very Bullish' sentiment dominates social media, but widespread optimism can become a risk of its own if bullish traders are caught off guard by another sharp decline.
