Bitcoin Miners' AI Pivot Sees Valuations Double Amid Crypto Slump
Bitcoin miners have seen their valuations double despite the cryptocurrency's 45% price drop over eight months. This surge in value is attributed to a pivot towards artificial intelligence and high-performance computing, which has turned out to be a savvy move for some companies.
The AI pivot started quietly a few years ago but has now become one of the most significant capital-allocation stories in the crypto-adjacent stock market. According to CoinShares, miners with AI and HPC contracts trade at 12.3 times their enterprise value, compared to just 5.9 times for pure-play bitcoin miners.
The $70 billion in cumulative AI and HPC contracts secured by miners by the end of the first quarter is a major reason why these companies' valuations and revenue prospects now outpace those of miners that stuck solely to bitcoin.
