Bitcoin Miners Pump Billions into AI Infrastructure Amid Sluggish Returns
Bitcoin mining companies are investing heavily in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, but the returns on this investment are struggling to keep pace.
According to data compiled by BlocksBridge Consulting, nine publicly-listed Bitcoin mining companies deployed $5.11 billion toward capital infrastructure investments during the first half of 2026.
This is despite generating only $341.2 million from AI and high-performance computing (HPC)-related services, resulting in a significant 15:1 spending-to-income disparity.
HIVE Digital Technologies is one of the companies leading this shift towards AI infrastructure, having finalized a five-year, $350 million AI cloud infrastructure agreement with an undisclosed corporate client.
