Bitcoin Miners Repurpose Infrastructure for AI Computing
Hut 8, a company originally focused on Bitcoin mining, has transformed its Texas-based energy infrastructure into an AI data center. The site, known as Beacon Point, now houses a major facility for artificial intelligence computing.
The transformation is significant, with Hut 8 leasing 704 MW of capacity valued at $19.6 billion over 15 years. Nvidia holds the lease and provides the necessary AI chips for the operation.
Anthropic has signed a contract worth $35 billion with cloud provider Lambda, which will utilize approximately half of Hut 8's capacity to run AI models like Claude. This partnership highlights how Bitcoin miners are adapting their infrastructure to meet growing demands in AI computing.
