Bitcoin Miners Tap AI Demand, Secure Billions in Leases
CleanSpark and other companies are transforming their Bitcoin mining operations into AI data centers due to strong demand for AI infrastructure. The shift is driven by the increasing need for power, land, and operating experience in the AI supply chain.
A panel of experts at the H.C. Wainwright 28th Annual Global Investment Conference discussed the move from Bitcoin mining to AI data center development. They highlighted the strong demand, large contract wins, and rising asset values in the AI infrastructure market.
CleanSpark secured a $6.6 billion, 20-year triple-net lease with a high investment-grade tenant, which represents about $330 million in annual revenue and is close to 100% bottom-line profitable. The company also has exclusivity on up to 885 additional megawatts in Texas.
The panelists noted that the cost of building AI data centers has risen sharply, with several speakers citing $8 million to $13 million per megawatt, far above the $1 million to $1.5 million per megawatt typical for Bitcoin mining sites.
