Bitcoin Mining Difficulty Drops Amid Price Decline and Shift to AI
Bitcoin's mining difficulty decreased for the ninth time this year, with a total of nine drops and six increases in 2026. This decline reflects the economic pressure on miners due to Bitcoin's price drop of 26% since January. As a result, daily mining revenue, also known as hashprice, has fallen from $37.39 per petahash to $32.21. Many miners are repurposing their hardware for artificial intelligence and cloud computing, which have become more profitable than mining.
The difficulty adjustment mechanism continues to maintain block production every ten minutes, but the network's future depends on Bitcoin's price recovery and competition with AI infrastructure demand. This situation highlights the volatility of the cryptocurrency market and its impact on miners' operations.
