Bitcoin Nears First Bullish Moving Average Alignment Since 2025
Bitcoin is on the verge of a significant technical milestone that could signal a sustained bullish trend. The cryptocurrency’s 50-, 100-, and 200-day moving averages are nearing a fully bullish alignment for the first time since 2025. This alignment, where the 50-day average sits above the 100-day, and the 100-day above the 200-day, is a key indicator of upward momentum across short-, medium-, and long-term trends.
Bitcoin’s price has surged over 40% to $87,000 in the third quarter of 2026, though it has recently stalled near $85,000 amid a strengthening U.S. dollar. The impending crossover of the moving averages reinforces the idea that the cryptocurrency’s three-month recovery is genuine. Vikram Subburaj, CEO of Giottus exchange, noted that this alignment would mark the first such signal since June 24, 2025.
Historically, similar alignments have preceded major rallies, such as the one in October 2020 that saw Bitcoin rise from around $13,600 to a record high above $64,000 by May 2021. However, not all alignments have led to sustained gains. For instance, the alignment in June 2025 only resulted in a modest rise from $106,000 to $112,000 over 97 days.
Subburaj cautioned that while the crossover strengthens the bullish case, it does not guarantee continued upward momentum. The critical test will be whether Bitcoin can maintain its spot price above its 50-day average during any potential corrections. He emphasized that the asset’s behavior post-crossover will determine whether this alignment leads to a sustained bull market or another short-lived signal.
