Bitcoin Nears Milestone with 11 Days to First Winning Quarter in a Year
Bitcoin's price has surged to $81,214 as of September 19, marking a remarkable 39% increase from its June 30 closing price of $58,524. To achieve its first green quarter in a year, the Bitcoin price must close above its June 30 position on September 30.
The last instance of Bitcoin finishing a quarter with a positive return was in Q3 of 2025, when it peaked at an all-time high of $126,198. Since then, Bitcoin has trended downward for three consecutive quarters, making this quarter's close particularly critical for holders.
Despite its recent gains, Bitcoin remains in negative territory overall for the year, down 7.18% from its December 31, 2025 closing price of $87,498. A green quarter would effectively break Bitcoin's three-quarter losing streak but does not rectify the year's performance entirely.
The VIX, which indicates expected fluctuations in the S&P 500 over the next 30 days, closed at 15.44 on September 17, suggesting low stress levels. However, its March spike to 31 shows how quickly a broad-market shock could threaten the quarter close.
