Bitcoin OG Holders Double Down on Activity Amid Consolidation
Bitcoin's oldest holders have increased their spending activity since May, moving nearly twice as much Bitcoin (BTC) in the past 90 days compared to the same period. According to data from CryptoQuant analyst Darkfost, about 1,500 BTC has been spent by these investors in recent weeks, a significant jump from the 962 BTC recorded on June 24. This cohort includes holders who have not moved their coins for more than five years.
The latest increase is linked to unease caused by Bitcoin's consolidation phase, with even long-term investors becoming more active. However, Darkfost cautioned against assuming that this activity necessarily means selling, as some transactions may be related to moving funds to safer storage following the Coldcard security incident.
In August, 553.59 BTC was transferred from six wallets that had remained inactive for nearly a decade or longer. While one wallet sent coins to an exchange, the majority of transfers went to addresses with no identified connection to trading platforms.
