Bitcoin Open Interest Reaches Two-Month High Amid Volatility Concerns
Bitcoin's Open Interest (OI) has surged to a two-month high, reaching approximately 750,000 $BTC worth around $47.92 billion at press time on July 29.
This significant buildup in OI over the past 30 days signals renewed leveraged speculative trading activity in the derivatives market, with Binance recording the highest growth of about 336,550 coins valued at over $21.53 billion.
Other exchanges, such as Gate.io and Bybit, have also seen substantial increases in fresh capital to their derivatives segments, with around 319,880 $BTC and 137,860 Bitcoin respectively.
The elevated OI is a cause for concern regarding potential liquidations, particularly if Bitcoin experiences a sharp price move. Arab Chain warned that 'a continuation of this trend could increase the likelihood of heightened volatility and large-scale liquidations'.
