Bitcoin Options Expiration Looms: $15 Billion in Contracts Near Key Strike Prices
A large block of Bitcoin options is set to expire on Friday, with around $15 billion in contracts nearing key strike prices. The expirations come as the market trades below the largest call concentration.
The put-to-call ratio is currently at 0.70, indicating that more call positions are open than put positions. The largest call positions are concentrated at $85,000, $90,000, and $100,000 strike prices, with the latter being a significant amount near key resistance levels.
Bitcoin's current price is trading near $84,258, down 2% on the day. However, it remains above the $76,000 max-pain level but below the $85,000 call open interest concentration.
Large options expirations are often accompanied by increased volatility as market participants adjust their positions and hedge against potential price swings. Market makers may also engage in hedging activity to moderate price movements around settlement.
