Bitcoin Payments in El Salvador Plummet Amid Volatility and HODL Mentality

El Salvador's 'Bitcoin Beach' has seen a decline in Bitcoin payments for everyday purchases. According to Jon Atack, a Bitcoin Core developer living in El Zonte, the use of cryptocurrency as a means of payment has decreased significantly.

The restaurant where Atack wanted to pay with Bitcoin noted that his transaction was the only one they had made all month, and that card payments were more common for everyday purchases.

Experts attribute this decline to several factors, including the 'HODL' approach, which views Bitcoin as a long-term store of value rather than a payment method. High volatility in Bitcoin's price also contributes to consumers and businesses being reluctant to use it for payments.
