Bitcoin Policy Institute Demands MSCI Scrap Plan to Drop Bitcoin Treasury Companies
The Bitcoin Policy Institute is calling on MSCI to scrap its plan to drop Strategy and Metaplanet from its indexes. The Washington-based digital asset research group argues that the proposal would unfairly punish companies with significant bitcoin treasuries, forcing them out of widely tracked equity benchmarks.
MCSI's proposed rule change would classify certain firms as 'non-operating companies' and remove them from the Global Investable Market Index. Strategy and Metaplanet, both of which have accumulated substantial bitcoin holdings, would be among those affected.
The Bitcoin Policy Institute released a paper criticizing MSCI's decision-making process, pointing out that the proposal was stored in an internal folder labeled for digital asset treasury companies. The group argues that this lack of transparency gives MCSI too much discretion over which companies to include or exclude from its indexes.
