Bitcoin Price Crash Triggers Widespread Altcoin Sell-Off Amid Market Uncertainty
The Bitcoin price crash in late July has had far-reaching consequences for the cryptocurrency market. The sudden drop of over $3,000 pushed BTC toward $62,000 and wiped billions from its valuation within hours.
This marked a sharp reversal from the promising rally earlier in the month, and dragged major altcoins lower across the market. The total crypto capitalization fell to near $2.22 trillion by August 2, while altcoin capitalization slipped to about $964 billion as Ethereum, XRP, Solana, and HYPE recorded weekly losses.
However, Cardano bucked this trend with a 15.3% weekly gain, making it the clearest outlier in the market. Analyst CryptoPatel notes that ADA still trades far below its historical peak and key resistance, but has reclaimed the upper edge of a crucial demand area between $0.086 and $0.150.
The current market sentiment is marked by policy uncertainty, geopolitical tension, wallet-security concerns, and worsening on-chain losses. Traders are assessing whether selling pressure can deepen further, with some predicting that Bitcoin could fall toward $50,000 if the CLARITY Act stalls and a yen carry trade unwinds.
