Bitcoin Price Dips as US Payroll Data Weighs Heavily on Market
The price of Bitcoin (BTC) has been steadily declining since touching the $87,000 zone on Friday, currently trading near $84,589. This drop comes after a week of significant US economic news, including weak US payroll data. The data, released on Friday, showed a 29,000 jobs added, significantly lower than the 84,000 to 90,000 expected. This led to a reevaluation of the potential for another Federal Reserve rate hike, which typically supports risk assets and Bitcoin.
The jobs report's revisions erased 60,000 jobs, indicating a cooling economy. This shift in sentiment weighed heavily on the cryptocurrency market, causing Bitcoin's price to drop. The current market conditions are further complicated by the upcoming release of the September Consumer Price Index (CPI) report on October 14. A hotter-than-expected CPI reading could increase the odds of another rate hike and put downward pressure on Bitcoin's price.
Despite the challenges facing the market, some analysts remain optimistic. Ted (@TedPillows) suggests that a weekly close above $87,500 could lead to a strong rally, while others point to the historical pattern of Bitcoin hitting cycle lows when the Fear and Greed Index falls to 5 or 6. The SEC's recent approval of 3x leveraged ETPs from Volatility Shares' VS Trust may also provide a boost to the market, although the launch date is still unknown.
