Bitcoin Price Dips Below $88K Ahead of Record Options Expiry
Bitcoin's price fell below $88,000 during US trading on Monday after briefly surpassing $90,000 earlier in the session.
Ethereum also retreated below $3,000 as crypto assets moved steadily lower through the afternoon.
According to Deribit, over $28.5 billion in Bitcoin and Ethereum options are scheduled to expire on Friday, representing the largest expiration in the exchange's history.
This amount accounts for more than half of Deribit's total open interest of $52.2 billion.
Deribit's chief commercial officer, Jean-David Pequignot, characterized this year-end expiry as a culmination of a year defined by institutional maturity, shifting from speculative cycles to a policy-driven supercycle.
