Bitcoin Price in Dollars and Euros: A 4.4 Percent Gap
The Bitcoin price on Saturday evening was $84,828, but only €75,348. This disparity is due to the exchange rate between the euro and the dollar, not the cryptocurrency market itself. In dollars, the year-to-date loss is 4.4 percent, while in euros, it is a more modest 0.5 percent.
The exchange rate plays a significant role in determining the price of Bitcoin in euros. The European Central Bank's reference rate is used as a benchmark, and it has appreciated 4.42 percent against the euro over the past nine months. This means that a German investor would see a different year-to-date performance compared to an American investor.
When considering the currency effect, it is essential to note that it can work in both directions. A euro that climbs back towards $1.17 can take away from a German portfolio exactly what the dollar's strength added this year, without anything changing in Bitcoin itself.
