Bitcoin Price Predictions for 2026: A Tale of Two Extremes
Bitcoin's price prediction for 2026 has been a contentious topic among analysts and experts. A survey by CNBC in January found that industry executives and investors had vastly different forecasts, ranging from $75,000 to $225,000.
However, as the year progressed, the gap between predictions only grew wider. Institutional desks and independent strategists produced numbers that barely occupied the same conversation, with some predicting a moonshot in the back half of the year.
The bullish case is led by Bernstein's team, which predicts $150,000 as their base case for December, with a further climb to that level by mid-2027 and a longer shot at $500,000 by 2029. JPMorgan's most recent figure sits at $170,000, while Citibank's estimate came in lower at $133,000.
However, not all analysts are bullish on Bitcoin's prospects. Standard Chartered's target has been cut twice, from $300,000 to $200,000 and then down again to $150,000 in December. The bank's analyst, Geoffrey Kendrick, believes that corporate treasury buying has already peaked.
Prediction markets also tell a different story. Traders have wagered over $10.6 million on year-end contracts, with the consensus pointing to a close near $75,000. This is far lower than Bernstein's base case, and options markets are equally split between $70,000 and $130,000 for the end of June.
