Bitcoin Price Surges 20%: Halving Cycle or New Bull Run?

Bitcoin's price has been on an upswing since bottoming near $58,000 two months ago. In just one week, the cryptocurrency rose over 20%, its sharpest bounce this year. Some pundits believe that this increase may mark the start of a new leg higher in the market.

This optimism is based on several factors. The massive leverage used by Bitcoin investors last summer has since normalized, easing pressure on the price. Additionally, recent Treasury buyback announcements have led some to question the dollar and US Treasury bonds as safe havens, potentially driving value towards alternative currencies like gold and Bitcoin.

However, others are more cautious in their assessment. The four-year halving cycle of mining rewards has historically driven boom-bust cycles, with drawdowns ranging from 75% to over 90%. If this pattern holds true, Bitcoin may still have a significant drop before reaching its projected peak in early 2029.
