Bitcoin Puts $90K Breakout Within Reach Amid Soaring Short Liquidations
Bitcoin's price has been steadily climbing towards $90,000, and some analysts believe it could break through this level sooner than expected. The cryptocurrency is currently trading around $85,969 after reaching an intraday high of $86,794 on Friday.
The immediate resistance zone lies between $87,000 to $88,000, with $90,000 becoming increasingly visible beyond it. According to Bitfinex's framework, the major upside test for Bitcoin is its yearly open at $87,722. A sustained break above this level, accompanied by stronger ETF inflows, would open a path towards its mean-MVRV level near $96,700.
Nicolai Sondergaard, senior research analyst at Nansen, has identified $87,000 as the next key level after $85,000. He noted that price has turned bullish faster than positioning has, creating a feedback loop where shorts may cover while traders who stayed underweight chase the advance.
Recent short liquidations of over $200 million have already primed the market for a squeeze. However, the article's core edge is timing: price is turning bullish faster than positioning, so a clean break above $87,722 can rapidly reprice options and drive implied volatility higher.
