Bitcoin Rally Tested as Jobs Report Looms Ahead of Fed Rate Decision
Bitcoin's price has surged this month, rising by around 24% in August, its best monthly performance since November 2024. This increase comes as investors are now focused on the upcoming U.S. jobs report, which will be released on Friday.
The Federal Reserve's interest rate decision is expected to be influenced by the jobs report, with a stronger-than-expected reading potentially reinforcing expectations for higher rates. On the other hand, weaker hiring could give policymakers more reason to weigh labor-market risks alongside persistent inflation.
Traders have increased their bets on a quarter-point September rate increase, with a roughly two-thirds probability assigned by CME data cited by the Wall Street Journal. This is up from less than 40% a week earlier, following Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's Jackson Hole speech last week, where he said policymakers still had work to do if inflation did not move convincingly toward the central bank's 2% target.
Bitcoin is already facing challenges due to rising bond yields and higher energy prices, with the benchmark 10-year Treasury yield approaching 4.8%. Additionally, the cryptocurrency will be closely watching the Federal Reserve's two-day meeting, which begins on September 15, and the Senate's procedural vote on the CLARITY Act, a legislation that would establish a federal regulatory framework for digital assets.
