Bitcoin Reclaims $80,000 Amid Dollar Weakness

Bitcoin has broken above $80,000 for the first time since mid-May, reaching an intraday high of $81,237.94 on August 25.

The latest move marks a significant advance for the cryptocurrency, with a gain of approximately 28% since the beginning of August.

This makes August the strongest monthly performance for Bitcoin since November 2024, according to recent numbers.

One reason behind the surge is the weaker U.S. dollar, which has become a focus for markets due to renewed concerns about currency debasement and government policies.

The Treasury's plan to buy back long-dated bonds has helped revive discussion of the 'debasement trade', where investors seek assets with limited supply when confidence in fiat currencies weakens.

Bitcoin's fixed maximum supply of 21 million coins makes it an attractive option for those concerned about currency debasement, leading some analysts to place it in the same macroeconomic category as gold.

The simultaneous strength of Bitcoin and gold is noteworthy, with both assets benefiting from dollar weakness and concerns about fiat currency purchasing power.
