Bitcoin Red Team Faces AI Access Restrictions Amid Security Audit
The Bitcoin Red Team, led by Rob Hamilton of AnchorWatch, conducted an AI-driven security audit on open-source Bitcoin projects. This initiative aimed to identify vulnerabilities in the repositories and prevent potential security incidents.
In just 30 hours, the team scanned over 390 repositories and identified nearly 5,000 issues, with 85 deemed critical and over 635 categorized as high severity. The reproducibility of these vulnerabilities was credible, with about one in five being independently confirmed as legitimate.
The total expenses associated with AI computing for this project fell within the range of $20,000 to $40,000. The team utilized a variety of AI models, including Kimi K3 from Moonshot AI and OpenAI's Cyber Harness. However, both OpenAI and Anthropic imposed restrictions during critical phases of their project, forcing Hamilton to seek alternative models.
