Bitcoin Red Team Loses Access to OpenAI Security Tools
Bitcoin Red Team founder Rob Hamilton has lost access to OpenAI's Trust and Cyber tools while researching Bitcoin code. The restriction is forcing him to return to open-source AI models built in China, which he found painful given his background as a 'patriotic American'.
The team had already discovered 1,288 critical and high-level vulnerabilities across the Bitcoin ecosystem as of Saturday. Their efforts have picked up speed following the Coldcard hardware wallet hack, which resulted in over $100 million in stolen Bitcoin.
Hamilton argues that this restriction creates an uneven playing field, where those trying to prevent attacks are being left without the tools they need. He says 'black hats will not hit these issues,' while 'the white hats will.' The team's work continues, using whatever AI tools remain available to them.
