Bitcoin Rides 44% Q3 Surge to Best Performance Since 2024
Bitcoin wrapped up its strongest quarter in over two years, closing Q3 up 44%. This marks the asset's best quarterly performance since Q1 2024. The price surge saw Bitcoin jump roughly $26,000 in three months, from around $58,500 to $86,000 by the end of September.
The third quarter has historically averaged returns of 8-9% for Bitcoin, but this year's result came in at five times that pace. Each month in Q3 closed in positive territory, ending a streak of three consecutive losing quarters for the asset.
Bitcoin's performance looks even more impressive when compared to traditional assets. Gold gained approximately 8.7% over the same period, while major US stock indices rose about 2%. The biggest driver behind Bitcoin's rally was a reversal in money moving through US spot Bitcoin ETFs, which saw a multibillion-dollar swing from year-to-date outflows of $5 billion to net inflows of $1 billion.
The SEC's exemptions for tokenized-stock platforms also added some tailwind to the market. However, as October approached, Bitcoin was still trading well short of its all-time high of nearly $126,000, which it reached in October 2025.
