Bitcoin Rips Above $80,000 on Regulatory Tailwind as Altcoins Sprint Ahead
The cryptocurrency market saw an unexpected surge on Friday morning when Bitcoin reclaimed $80,000, increasing by over 5%.
This sudden jump was triggered by regulatory developments rather than monetary policy changes. The SEC's conditional exemption for tokenized stocks to trade on blockchains and the CFTC's crypto asset rulemaking to the White House for review provided a much-needed boost to the market.
Spot Bitcoin ETFs saw significant net inflows of $159.5 million, while 111,660 traders were liquidated for $547.8 million over 24 hours, with short positions accounting for $431 million of that. This led to a sharp increase in the Crypto Fear and Greed Index, which jumped to 71, firmly in 'Greed,' up from 56 the day before.
Altcoins did not just follow Bitcoin's lead; they sprinted ahead. NEAR Protocol led the pack with a 55% gain over the week, followed closely by Arbitrum, Pieverse, Ethena, and Uniswap.
The common thread among these top-performing altcoins is that none of them are memecoins. Instead, each has a real product update, fee mechanic, or regulatory tailwind behind it.
