Bitcoin Search Interest Hits Five-Year Low Despite Institutional Investment
Public interest in Bitcoin has hit one of its lowest points in almost five years in the US, despite increased institutional investment and regulatory momentum. According to Google Trends data, the term 'Bitcoin' had a popularity level of 18 for the week ending August 1, which is one of the lowest levels since late 2022 and 2023.
This decline comes amidst growing mainstream coverage of cryptocurrencies, blockchain technology, and prediction markets over the past year. In contrast, during the first week of February this year, there was more interest in Bitcoin on Google Trends than at any point in the past five years.
The disappointing search interest is particularly puzzling considering the numerous developments shaping the digital asset landscape, including the potential for procedural movement on the CLARITY Act. The US Senate remains a focus of market participants given the potential for regulatory changes.
