Bitcoin Sees Second-Strongest Q3 Gain Since 2017, Outpaced by Ethereum
Bitcoin's third-quarter performance is shaping up to be its second-strongest on record, according to provisional figures. The cryptocurrency rose from around $58,500 at the start of the quarter to approximately $84,000 by September 26, marking a gain of 43.5%. This trails only Bitcoin's remarkable 80.4% increase in the third quarter of 2017.
Ethereum (ETH) has also seen significant growth, with a 71.02% rise over the same period. This surpasses its previous Q3 record of about 66.5%, set in 2025. However, it's essential to note that these figures remain provisional and could change before the end of the quarter on September 30.
The market activity has been robust alongside price gains. Bitcoin spot trading volume had more than doubled from its August low by September 22, while ETF buying increased. Profit-taking remained below levels recorded during the 2024 and 2025 market tops.
