Bitcoin Set to Shatter September Slump with Best Month on Record
Bitcoin is poised to shatter its long-standing September slump and post its best month on record, with just one trading day remaining. The cryptocurrency has gained 7.33% in September, narrowly edging past the 7.29% return posted in 2024. This would break a pattern of autumnal weakness that has seen Bitcoin finish the month in negative territory eight out of 13 years since 2013.
Despite this year's advance, September remains the worst month on the calendar for Bitcoin, with an average return of -2.34%. However, recent trends suggest that this may be changing. In 2023, Bitcoin gained 3.91% in September, followed by 7.29% in 2024 and 5.16% in 2025.
The path to a record-breaking September has been marked by sharp reversals. A failed Senate cloture vote and a Federal Reserve rate hike pushed prices toward $75,000, but seven consecutive sessions of ETF inflows totaling nearly $3 billion triggered a short squeeze and a rally to $87,354. Bitcoin has since pulled back to around $83,000 amid rising oil prices.
Technical indicators remain bullish, with a golden cross in place and trend strength readings above key thresholds. To secure the record, Bitcoin must close the month above roughly $83,600.
