Bitcoin Shatters Nine-Year August Weakness Streak with 25% Surge
Bitcoin's August performance has shattered its nine-year seasonal weakness streak, surging by over 25% to deliver its strongest rally in a decade. The cryptocurrency started the month around $62,000 and briefly touched $81,000 before settling in the $78,000-$79,000 range at the end of August.
This significant gain is the largest since August 2017, when Bitcoin jumped roughly 65%. Historically, August has been one of the worst months for Bitcoin, with a median return of approximately -7% since 2013. However, institutional capital played a crucial role in this month's rally.
The U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded net inflows of approximately $1.92 billion during the week when the uptrend gained momentum, while cumulative inflows through August 28 reached roughly $3.3 billion. On-chain data also showed aggressive buying by large investors, with 'whales' accumulating an additional 39,154 BTC over the past week.
