Bitcoin Shows Signs of Stabilization Amid Smaller Drawdowns
Bitcoin's latest downturn is showing signs of stabilization, according to Wintermute's analysis. The firm notes that the asset is now about 50% below its peak, a significant improvement compared to previous bear markets. In contrast to declines above 75% at the same stage in 2018 and 2022, Bitcoin has bottomed shallower each cycle, with drawdowns shrinking from 83%, then 77%, to the current 50%. This structural shift could indicate that the asset is stabilizing faster than earlier ones.
The recovery speed of Bitcoin also stands out. It remained more than 75% below its peak 340 days into the 2018 and 2022 bear markets, but only needed a few weeks to recover in the current cycle. Wintermute linked this improvement to early participation from ETFs and institutional investors, as well as increasing market breadth with profits rotating between investor groups.
At the time of writing, Bitcoin is trading around $78K to $79K, holding near its previous highs after a stronger-than-expected US jobs report. The asset's resilience during economic data releases has reinforced confidence among institutional participants, and recent ETF inflows have supported the market.
