Bitcoin Slips Below $63,000 as Support Levels Fail
Bitcoin's price slipped below $63,000 on August 1, marking a key support band failure. The price drop occurred despite initial reactions from buyers around the overlap between the 50-day simple moving average ($63,370) and the 0.236 Fibonacci retracement ($63,620). However, Bitcoin ultimately closed below both levels.
The July 31 defense failed to hold, with the price remaining inside a descending channel drawn from the July 21 high. The lower boundary of this channel is approaching horizontal support around $62,100, an area where buyers have previously responded in July.
Santiment recorded its most bearish Bitcoin commentary ratio since modern tracking began, with 0.58 bullish comments for every bearish comment across social platforms. This follows reports of a Coldcard firmware exploit and concerns about self-custody security. Binance founder Changpeng Zhao weighed in on the issue, warning that no storage method is completely free of risk.
