Bitcoin Slips Below $64K Amid Rising Oil Prices and Japanese Intervention
Bitcoin's price has fallen below $64,000, but despite this decline, altcoins such as Hyperliquid and Cardano have seen significant gains. The drop in Bitcoin's value is attributed to rising oil prices and a major currency intervention out of Japan, where the country spent a record $53 billion in one day to defend its yen.
The selloff in Bitcoin appears to be more of a repositioning move than a directional conviction, with open interest remaining elevated and trading volume picking up. This distinction matters for where price goes next, as it could turn into a more convincing breakdown if spot demand doesn't back the move.
One important level to watch is the 200-week moving average near $63,300. If Bitcoin holds above this level, a rebound toward $65,000 resistance becomes possible. However, a break below $62,500 opens the door to a drop toward $60,000.
Among altcoins, Hyperliquid led the rally with a 4.26% gain to $55.30, driven by strong on-chain fundamentals. Cardano rose 2.36% to $0.170, breaking out of a symmetrical triangle pattern confirmed by higher volume. Pump.fun also saw significant gains, up 6.31% to $0.00207.
