Bitcoin Slumps 40% from 2025 High as September Volatility Intensifies
Crypto investors are bracing for a rocky September as Bitcoin struggles to regain its footing. The world's largest digital asset exchange, Binance, shows Bitcoin's price hovering around $77,397.83, a modest 1.35% increase for the day. However, this is still far from the October 2025 record of $126,198, a drop of almost 40%. The brutal fall has had a ripple effect across the crypto world, with other popular assets like Ether and Cardano also feeling the pain.
The price swings have been particularly volatile this month, with Bitcoin trading between roughly $77,057 and $82,656. Early in September, Bitcoin pushed up to $81,166.73, only to retreat after strong US jobs data sparked worries that the Federal Reserve would keep tightening. This sent a shockwave through the market, with most liquidations coming from long positions, meaning traders betting with leverage got burned.
ETF flows have only added to the chaos, with spot bitcoin ETFs seeing inflows of about $730.8 million on September 3, followed by net outflows of more than $236 million just days later. This volatility has put pressure on investors, particularly those who bought Bitcoin around its 2025 high. With the market still swinging wildly, managing risk is crucial, as September 2026 has already shown.
