Bitcoin Soars $15K in 48 Hours on Multi-Faceted Catalysts
Bitcoin has recovered its losses of approximately $15,000 in just two days. After plummeting to around $64,200 on August 19th, the price of the leading cryptocurrency surged to nearly $79,300 on August 21st, marking a significant recovery.
The initial catalyst for this surge was the US Treasury's announcement of increased bond purchases, which led to a decline in Treasury yields. This development is generally favorable for riskier assets like Bitcoin, as lower yields make them relatively more attractive.
However, the subsequent increase in prices cannot be attributed solely to this factor. Other contributors include the renewed push by US politicians to pass the CLARITY Act and the Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) proposal to provide greater clarity on regulating digital assets.
A crucial aspect of this recovery is the short squeeze that occurred when traders who had taken short positions were forced to liquidate their assets, leading to a surge in buying pressure. According to CoinGlass data, approximately $1.21 billion worth of short positions were liquidated within 24 hours.
