Bitcoin Spot ETFs Bleed $283M as Outflows Continue
Spot Bitcoin ETFs have been experiencing outflows, losing $283 million in value over three days. Despite holding up reasonably well, data from SoSoValue shows that net outflows for Bitcoin spot ETFs reached $120.2 million on September 9 ET, following $46.6 million in outflows the day prior. In contrast, Ethereum spot ETFs saw mild inflows of $34.75 million.
BlackRock's ETHA managed to collect $13.95 million in net inflows despite the outflows from Bitcoin spot ETFs, indicating different strategies being implemented by various issuers. The summer months saw strong institutional inflows into US Spot Bitcoin ETFs, with daily inflows reaching hundreds of millions.
Consecutive days of outflows can signal pre-event de-risking, quarter-end rebalancing, or unwinds of basis trades using CME Bitcoin futures rather than outright reluctance. Market makers and authorized participants like Jane Street and Virtu Financial are actively providing liquidity, but investors redeeming from ETFs like Fidelity's FBTC or Grayscale's GBTC would lead to spot selling pressure across exchanges.
