Bitcoin Spot ETFs Reversal: $450M Net Outflow Ahead of FOMC Meeting
The U.S. Bitcoin spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) experienced significant outflows on the 15th, reversing the previous day's net inflows of $160 million after five consecutive sessions of capital flight. The sudden shift saw over $450 million in net outflows, with Fidelity's FBTC accounting for the largest loss at $214.8 million.
BlackRock's IBIT also shed a substantial $161.7 million, followed by Grayscale's GBTC, which lost $44.1 million. ARK Invest's ARKB and Bitwise's BITB saw outflows of $17.4 million and $12.4 million, respectively.
The large-scale outflows come ahead of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting on the 15th-16th. Bitcoin's price dropped approximately 4% over the prior 24 hours to $75,712 at the time of reporting, while its market capitalization stood at around $1.52 trillion.
The Fear & Greed Index remained in 'Greed' territory at 69, but this does not directly indicate ETF demand. Historically, institutional investors have reduced bitcoin exposure ahead of monetary policy decisions, and the current uncertainty over interest rates may be contributing to this trend.
