Bitcoin Sprints Past $82K on Short-Squeeze Frenzy
Bitcoin's price surged past $82,000 on September 3, overcoming its recent dip to $76,000. This sudden spike was largely driven by heavy short liquidations, with nearly $250 million in short leveraged positions being wiped out over a 24-hour period.
The upward move was so strong that it extended beyond Bitcoin, with Ethereum and Zcash also experiencing significant liquidations. According to Coinglass data, the total crypto-market liquidations climbed to $758 million, with short positions making up $480 million of the total wipeout.
Freeman, a trader, noted that the Bitcoin price rebound aligned almost perfectly with key levels flagged earlier in the week. He also pointed out that BTC open interest remains elevated at approximately $54 billion, showing that leverage did not disappear but returned quickly.
