Bitcoin Struggles as Yen Strengthens to Record Highs
Bitcoin struggled to regain its footing above $80,000 on Wednesday as market attention shifted towards the Japanese yen. The yen continued to strengthen, reaching its highest levels against the dollar since February at around 153 per dollar.
The US-Iran strikes pushed Brent crude oil prices above $100 per barrel, exacerbating macro headwinds for Bitcoin. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent hinted at further interventions in yen currency markets, suggesting that he has asymmetric information about future central bank actions.
Short traders of the yen remain near record highs, with around 5 trillion yen in positions. Analysts warn that a continued strength in the yen could lead to a rapid unwind of these shorts, potentially impacting liquidity and crypto markets.
